5Just Right for 1/2-acre Lawn  Sep 19, 2009
Just used the Dethatcher Attachment with my Mantis Electric Tiller (I highly recommended the electric tiller as it is MUCH quieter than the gas tiller) and it did the job thoroughly and with ease. Just go over your lawn in two different directions (e.g., do each section of your lawn in a north-south pass, then an east-west pass) and your thatch is gone! I've found that you can dethatch the whole yard going in a forward direction (much less physically taxing) if you simply make the Mantis go slower than it wants to go in the forward direction by forcing the machine to "pull" you (Mantis instructions that came with my tiller indicated that the best results are achieved by pulling the tiller backwards, which may result in more thorough dethatching on the first pass but, in my view, is not necessary). I finished the whole yard in one day (including bagging all the thatch) and the result was every bit as good (and about six times as fast) as that achieved the old-fashioned way with manual raking. I highly recommend it.

5Mantis dethatcher  Mar 30, 2008
I bought this dethatcher with aerator after I bought the cultivator/tiller. I have been using this dethatcher for over 3 days now. We have a big lawn th e front lawn is at least 100 ft x 40 ft, and more from the 2 sides of the house, back of the house etc... This I used it for a big area. It has performed more than I anticipated, I just have to make several passes because it is a small machine, but performs a grate job. JUst make sure that you put the wheel on the right place, like R on the right side, I made a bubu on mine and I was wandering why I was not able to remove the brown thatch, but when I got it working it was good. I will aerate my lawn tomorrow before I apple my fertilizer. I have collected several bags of nasty brown dry grass and left over dead weeds from last year.

5Works great!  Mar 23, 2008
If you have never dethatched your lawn before, you'll be in for a surprise using this dethatcher. I was surprised at how much "stuff" came out when I dethatched my front lawn the first time. It's a small front lawn, but there was enough material to fill four mower bags!

It is best to do this when the soil is just a little moist, or a little to the dry side. The dethatching wires don't work well in mud! After dethatching, your lawn will be covered by the brown thatch. A lawn mower serves as an effective vacuum cleaner for this. If you haven't dethatched for a while, dethatch again after vacuuming with a mower, and you'll be even more surprised how much stuff you'll get out in the second run!

This attachment is very easy to attach to the tiller and use. Now, I am ordering the aerating kit separately to get the lawn ready for Spring fertilizing/overseeding.

3really works  Sep 09, 2007
I questioned whether this would work like in their video. It does, I would say even better than the steel bladed dethatchers I have rented. Although the mantis takes much longer to cover the same amount of lawn.

The biggest problem is the duribilty as the tines bend quite easily.
